Alex Lenaers is a luthier and researcher based in Iowa City. He began his lutherie career at 18, earning a formal apprenticeship at 21, and has since traveled across the country for workshops and study with renowned luthiers and repair specialists.


Lenaers is also a composer and performer on violin, viola, and guitar. His compositions have been performed by the JACK Quartet and at the Center for New Music. As a performer, he is a founding guitarist of The New Third Space Ensemble in Chicago and has collaborated with composers including Caroline Shaw and Wynton Marsalis. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Composition and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Iowa.
